Ancient Roman "Victoria" Intaglio Ring
DATE: Roman, c. 2nd Century AD
This incredible ring was made around 1800 years ago. The agate panel is carved with an intaglio depicting the Roman Goddess Victoria (or Nike in ancient Greek mythology). Victoria was the personified goddess of victory, and was a major part of Roman life. Her image was widespread, appearing on coins, architecture, jewellery, and other arts - there were even temples built in her name. The ring is modelled in 22k yellow gold, and is in the classical east/west signet shape.
