1970s Rosewood Viking Ship Inlay Necklace
1970s Rosewood Viking Ship Inlay Necklace
$300.00
Description
DATE: Vintage, c.1970
Occasionally I find a piece of jewellery that's near-impossibly to accurately date. This is one of those. An educated guess would be 1970s, based mainly on the style and level of wear present... but really it could have been made at almost any point in the last 100 years. It's carved from a single piece of lozenge shaped rosewood, with a silver viking longboat inlay at the centre. A simple silver bail and chain complete the necklace. A second educated guess would be that it was made in Scotland; Scottish jewellery from the latter half of the 20th century often draws inspiration from the Scandinavian side of the North Sea.
