18th Century Enamelled Mourning Brooch
$1,350.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1770
A beautiful antique mourning brooch worked in 18 karat yellow gold, finished to both sides in fine guilloché enamelling and set with rose cut paste stones. The scene to the front depicts a young lady gazing longingly at a plinth, atop which rests two flaming hearts; in the background we see a weeping willow. To the reverse is further royal blue enamel with an intricate flower / star motif in the centre. It's likely to be Swiss or French in origin, with an astounding level of detail and craftsmanship.
