18th Century Derby Chelsea “Lady and Dalmation Puppy” Porcelain Fob Pendant
DATE: Georgian, c.1770
An original 18th Century porcelain Derby Chelsea period fob seal. This particular piece features a lady and a Dalmatian puppy, and displays the vivid colouring typical of the Derby factory. The design is older, however, originating from the earlier work of the Chelsea factory - there is evidence to suggest that a collection of some 300 moulds was transferred from the Chelsea factory to the Derby factory in the second part of the 18th Century. These seals would have been given as love tokens by the rich and famous of the day. This example features the motto in black, "SOIEES FIDELLE".
