Description

DATE: 17th Century, c.1650

This remarkable object dates back to the 17th century, circa 1650. It's a glove ring, designed to be worn (you guessed it) over a thick glove or possibly even a chain mail gauntlet (it's really big). The oval head has been intaglio carved with a crest and motto: a rose and a bee. Very sweet, and all the better when we consider the motto: "SANS LARCIN", which translates from French as "without theft". A mutually beneficial arrangement right there, although, I do wonder if whomever commissioned this was making a thinly veiled commentary on taxation. Crafted in gilt metal and it's size 15.5 and looks great worn as a pendant on a chain medium to thick chain.
