Description

DATE: Etruscan Revival, c.1870

Wonderful antique cameo brooch depicting Cupid / Eros labouring to summit a vertical rock face; or, "the Struggle for True Love". The cameo is carved from a single piece of bi-colour chalcedony, Cupid and the rock rendered in deep blood red over a milky/grey translucent background. It's mounted in a 15k gold cannetille border, punctuated by tiny gold balls, and crafted in the Etruscan style. Dating from the 1870s.
